A peek behind the curtain

The Marcus Alexander brand is truly a labor of love

We invite you to see how the brand comes to life

design process

My dream for Marcus Alexander is to impact the lives of others through great design.

The longer I design, the more I understand the best products are not measured by the number of bells and whistles.

At the heart of my designs, I honor the people and experiences that have molded me. For instance, the cage-like structure on the Gallow, is a nod to the chain link fence that surrounded the baseball diamond I grew up playing on at Cole Park, in Chicago. Even the materials I used, waxed nappa and suede, pay homage to my old baseball gloves. These are a love letter to my younger self.

I am proud to share who I am with the world through my artistic expression.

My design process starts with reflection. Reflecting on my past, my family, milestones, and my aspirations. Each shoe has a story — bits and pieces of my story.

I am so grateful to have development and production partners who take these pieces of me and bring them to life.

It is one of the most vulnerable, yet rewarding processes.

BEHIND THE SCENES:

WHERE FREEDOM

MEETS FUNCTION

I wanted fresh creative that truly embodied the Marcus Alexander spirit: Poetically Rugged.

On a foggy August day in Sausalito, CA, an all-star team of creatives came together to bring to life the editorial moment I had rolling around in my head.

The women of rāv collective had the day planned to the minute and ran a tight ship to accomplish our lofty goals. Andrew Waits wielded his camera and caught moments only he could see. Melinda Cazarez brought out the effortless natural beauty we wanted to capture. The muses of the day, Taylor Smith and Asante M. morphed into characters fit for the world we created.

And I stood back, and watched, pieces of my heart become immortalized in ways I previously only dreamt of. What a day.
